I recently did another bodypainting. This time not on a baby belly, but on my friend Mickey‘s back. Colors were my usual Kryolan Aquacolors. This time I experimented a bit with sponges and additionally some eyeliner. It took about two hours and what loosely inspired by this painting I found on deviantart.com.

A couple of days ago, I had another lovely afternoon of bodypainting a baby belly. My friend who has been the “canvas” for the “earth” picture two years ago is currently pregnant with her third child and asked me to create another colorful memory.

This entry is about an artwork that is not one of my own, but of a friend of mine and fellow artist: Oona Leganovic. Last year, she undertook a long journey through east Europe and Russia. As a gimmick, she sent out self-painted postcard pictures. This is the one she send me, including the letter she wrote.

I am deeply impressed by Oona’s talent and drive as an artist. I was never good with watercolors, which is why her technique impresses me even more. Dear Oona, thank you a lot for this lovely piece of art.

I recently had another chance to create a body painting on a friend’s baby belly. This time the picture was a Chinese dragon surrounded by waves. My friend Sara chose this, because the kid will be (or is now) born in the Chinese zodiac of a dragon and it is the year of the element “water”, thus a dragon surrounded by water.

As always, I used my Kryolan Aquacolors and water color brushes. The process of painting took about two hours. I started with the dragon itself, then the surrounding that with the white foundation, then the waves and finally some details of the dragon.

Before I started painting, Sara installed her camera to make a time lapse video of the painting. So, this time instead of “making of” photos, I present the “making of” video:

Last weekend, I had the chance to do another bodypainting. This time, my “canvas” was friend of mine who carries around an impressive baby belly these days. Since she is a real geek, she requested a Star War’s Death Star bodypainting.

I painted it with my favorite colors, Kryolan Aquacolors. We started with a light grey foundation. 

Next layer where the darker areas and the laser eye in different grey shades and black and white.

After that, I added the highlights in silver color.

You have no idea how many “windows” a death star has …

It was a great experience! I thank all involved people for this great day! Thanks to my model for her patience to sit still for nearly 2 hours :)

While browsing through my photos, I found a series of shots which were taken during one of my bodypainting sessions. Last year, a friend of mine was pregnant and I had the honor to paint the earth on her belly. I used Kryolan Aquacolor paint, water color brushes and small sponges. This is only the second body painting I ever made. Beforehand, I got some helpful hints from Oona regarding the materials. Thank you for that, Oona!

The master was an old globe that I inherited from an aunt of mine.

It took about 2 hours to paint the globe, including some breaks for the lovely “canvas” to rest. Even though her job was only to sit still, it was more exhausting than you’d expect.

In the end, even the big sister of the baby inside the belly wanted to take part in the painting.

The final result. One can see the fading ocean on the left bottom corner (fading created by using a small sponge) and the texture of the dried color.

Photos were taken by the father of the baby. By now, the earth’s baby is already born and about one year old. I guess one day, she will see the pictures and understand that she used to be a canvas.

I thank all people involved in this session for their enthusiasm and spirit throughout the whole day. It was a really nice experience for me and a great chance to do some bodypainting art. Thanks a lot!
